Are you anxious, tense, worried, exhausted, generally overwhelmed and stressed? Perhaps you have a physical condition you'd like to manage. Or maybe some emotional stuff going on. Whatever the case may be, you're a candidate for the healing power of Reiki.
What is Reiki and where did it come from?
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a gentle, hands-on healing technique for stress reduction and relaxation, which was re-discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in the latter part of the 19th century. This technique enables the practitioner to tap into an unlimited supply of "life force energy" to improve health and enhance the quality of life. A treatment feels like a warm, glowing radiance that flows through you and surrounds you. Reiki treats the whole person, including body, emotions, mind and spirit.
What is a Reiki treatment like?
A Reiki treatment, also called a Reiki session, is given on my comfortable massage table in my dimly lit and peaceful space. Soft and relaxing music will be playing in the background. There's no need to remove anything but your shoes. After explaining to you exactly what I will be doing, I will speak a short grounding meditation to relax us both, and then gently place my hands on or above your body to channel the Universal Life Force Energy. There is no need to be concerned that I can read your mind or that I will do or say anything to make you uncomfortable. You will find the treatment to be very relaxing and stress reducing.
Why would I want to have a Reiki treatment?
Reiki amplifies and balances energy, and gives feelings of comfort. The channeled energy relieves stress and pain, relaxes muscle spasms, and releases emotional blockages. It facilitates natural healing, and increases awareness and creativity. The feeling of comforting warmth experienced by many people aids relaxation, which in turn can reduce or eliminate pain. Reiki is effective on chronic and acute illness or injury and is completely safe and benign.
How does Reiki work?
Reiki is channeled through the practitioner. The Reiki energy flows through your energy field, breaking up blockages that have been preventing the life force energy from entering your organs and tissues. This process helps the body to heal naturally. The ability to use Reiki is not taught in the usual sense, but is transferred to the student by the Reiki Master. The use of Reiki is not dependent on intellectual capacity or spiritual development, and so is available to everyone.
Good news about Reiki!
According to the Center for Reiki Research, Reiki is being used in a growing number of hospitals to complement conventional therapy and reduce the length of hospital stays as well as the need for pain relieving medication. It's exciting and encouraging that this gentle and beautiful complementary modality is being recognized by the medical community as being something that is helpful to patients and their families!
